Chapter 6: Shadow Truth
HYRULE FIELD
The remaining Hylian defences were regrouping close to the only exit to the
Gerudo Canyon in one last attempt to stop the incoming invasion, but it was
almost pointless. Black forces were coming through like a tsunami of black
sand and evil...
"Captain Hawkwing? ... CAPTAIN HAWKWING!" An injured soldier on a horse was
roaming through the command lines of the Hylian army covered in blood and
bandages. One particular officer noticed him and went to his aid.
"What is it, man?" the officer asked. "T..t.the....they are.r.com.mm..m ing,
s..s.sss.sir." The once-valiant Hylian warrior shuttered as he collapsed to
the ground. The Captain looked at the storming black warriors coming through
the Canyon and immediately yelled, "FORM THE LINES... NOW!"
The remaining Hylian soldiers formed defensive lines and awaited their doom
with the trademark Hylian Courage... But then, as the enemy charge was almost
on top of the forward lines, the black warriors shrieked and their bodies
collapsed, forming a large cloud of black ashes... The victorious troops were
astonished, but still proceeded to yell out their contentment as the thought
of survival came into their minds.
The King simply looked at his head advisor and said, "Find my daughter, NOW,"
and headed back to the castle.
PLAINS OF STALA
Kyul was searching the remains of the black forces for his family sword,
helped by Link and Zelda. The piles of ashes were covering most of the plains
surrounding the castle and the confusion of the conflict made it difficult
for them to find anything at all...
"Man, it has to be around here somewhere, I mean come on," Kyul said,
exasperated. Link, following him closely, laughed and kicked a bigger pile of
ashes.
Zelda was trying to use some of her powers to seek Kyul's sword, but the
area was so saturated by the energy from the battle that it was tough just
to find her way around the hectic accumulation of energy.
"Oh hey, Kyul, I think I found it!" Link yelled. Kyul's attention automatically
reverted to Link and he ran right were he was...
"Oh man, thank you Link! I can't imagine losing this sword, it would be
horrible... It's the only thing I got from my father before he died," Kyul
said as he began to pull on the sword to rip it from the ground where it was
standing. "Don't worry about it," Link replied as he made his way back to the
castle and went on, "As for me I'm going to bed..sooooooo tired."
Kyul smiled and nodded, but then as he was taking the dust away from the
blade he noticed a pair of legs standing towards him. Intrigued, Kyul hoisted
his head and looked at the figure that was gazing at him... He was clad as a
Stalan warrior, but stalan warrior he was not. His face was masked by
bandages wrapped around his face and... His eyes were... Red. When the
figure noticed that Kyul was looking at him he quickly turned back and made
a run for his horse... "HEY... YOU THERE!" Kyul yelled and started to chase
him. "WAIT, COME BACK!" But it was too late. The mysterious man was gone. Kyul
mumbled a few schatten Reiter insults and turned back towards the castle...
"A sheikah here... No ... I must be mistaken, they are almost all
gone... And what would he be doing here anyways?"
Kyul entered his room in the Castle and removed his shirt and examined his
wounds. It wasn't too bad, he just had a sore throat and a few cuts and
bruises that he quickly patched up. He then looked out the window to the
horizon and wondered where that man came from and why he ran away.
Kyul then proceeded to the springs room where he could clean himself. All
that war paint was now pretty ugly after the rain. When he got there, he
undressed completely, keeping only his underpants and his family dagger. He
then dove in the large pool and began swimming under the water. He was smooth
and fast in his strokes. After a few minutes of swimming around, he came out
of the pool (clean) and dried himself out by lying down on the floor close
to a window and let the sun do the drying. After a few minutes of being in a
haze, Kyul's Schatten Reiter senses detected a presence close to the door. He
opened his eyes ever so slightly and discovered that the presence was, in
fact, a few Stalan girls "admiring the scene". Now Kyul was, for certain
things, a very shy person and his troubled childhood and having to survive
by himself for such a long time really slowed his erudition in the matters
of love, affection, and sex. So, when the teenage girls began to giggle, he
blushed and decided he was not going to offer a show for them anymore...
Although he was feeling a somewhat strange desire to stay, he decided to
leave.
Without any notice, Kyul agilely jumped in the air, reaching the girders close
to the roof. Kyul was maybe not a pure Sheikah, but he sure had a lot more
agility than the standard Hylian. Once on the girders, he leaped out of a
high window and let himself fall.
Zelda had removed the Sheikah attire and was now lost in her mind, resting
on her balcony... She looked at her right hand; the triforce symbol was
dimmed a little, probably because it wasn't needed at this time. But then it
began to glow a little stronger. Just as she noticed, Kyul, bare-chested,
landed (not as softly as he expected) on her balcony and rolled right to her
feet. Surprised, she said, "Oh hey, Kyul." Still in shock from his leap, Kyul
took time to answer, "Hey, how's it going?" and got up slowly when he noticed
that he was almost naked in front of Zelda. His face became as red as sheikah
eyes. "I got to go now, sorry to disturb you." Zelda giggled, feeling Kyul's
embarrassment. " Alright, but all three of us need to talk about what to do
next. It's getting kinda blurry, and I'm sure you have much more to tell me
and Link about your people." Kyul, not paying much attention to what Zelda
was saying, walked backwards to the door and replied, "Yeah, ok, well see ya." He
then ran out the door as quickly as he could... "Why did I have to land on
HER balcony anyways?"
SOMEWHERE AROUND DEATH MOUNTAIN
A Sheikah was riding a horse, galloping through hills and valleys at break
neck speed. He was swift and fast, he was on a mission and he had to
accomplish it... Once he arrived at his destination, he dismounted his black
horse and made his way to a creepy-looking cave... Once he was at the
entrance, three armed Sheikah warriors dropped from somewhere... Not
surprised, the rider said quickly, "Take me to the Grand overseer immediately.
The password is Ankh Fahkn. Alright, let me in NOW." The three warriors looked
at each other and said, "Ok , come with us."
The Sheikah rider was lead through a series of tunnels, stairways, doors, and
dungeons, and finally to a very large room. The only source of light in there
was a huge chandelier very high in the hall, and it didn't produce much
light. At the end of the hall was a very large throne. There was a Sheikah dressed in
a large red cape and his face bandages were neat and totally white. The
rider walked quickly to the throne and bowed respectfully to the Overseer.
"What news do you bring, Tahymi?" asked the Overseer in a deep, powerful voice.
"Sir, I.... You won't believe this, sir. It is impossible, but I swear it is
true," Kymi said, uncertain of the reaction his announcement would produce.
"Well, speak up boy, we don't have all day," the overseer replied, losing
patience.
"Yes, sir. Well, you see, I was supervising the battle in Stala and I swear, sir,
... One of the triforce bearers is ... A Schatten Reiter, sir, I swear."
The whole room went silent and all the heads turned towards the speaker. The
Overseer had stood up and was astonished. The taboo word had been
pronounced... The Schatten Reiters ... THE TRAITORS, the disgrace of the
shadow race... How could the sages and the goddesses choose someone like
THAT to bear the triforce? A soiled shadow that had left its mirror and
disobeyed their very nature... And how could one have survived the massacre?
The Sheikahs had people watching when it happened....
The overseer sat down and said, "Find your best men... Bring him here."
STALA CASTLE
Link had been sleeping for quite awhile when he began to have nightmares...
Link was in a dark castle... A dungeon, perhaps. Everything was covered in
blood and in the middle was the temple of time's Master Sword Pedestal.
Link's right hand was in pain as if a knife was embedded in it. Then the
master sword shattered in pieces and the pedestal fissured. A portal
appeared and slowly Ganondorf appeared and raised his right hand... The
triforce symbol was there, but instead of being lit up it was black and it
looked as if it was burned deep inside Ganondorf's skin. Link tried to
move... To do something, but he couldn't, he was frozen there, the pain in his
right hand even more excruciating... The Dark King spoke, "You.... LINK ...
You who sealed me in the dark realm, your sages made a mistake and here I
am, and I found you. I will torture you in every possible way, shatter your
bones to pieces and suck out the marrow, and I won't miss you this time, Hero
of Time." Link tried to scream as the Evil One was getting closer....
Link woke up... In a fraction of a second the Master Sword was in his hand
and he was in a battle stance. He looked around and noticed that it was only
a dream. He dropped to his knees and weeped. "Won't it ever stop?" he said,
tears running down his face.
CHAMBER OF LIGHT (TEMPLE OF TIME)
Rauru, Isylahn, and Ishkay, the three sages, were meditating. In front of them
a large oracle showed the Dark Realm Seal being shattered and all of the
banned evil spirits escaping...
"Rauru spoke with his low voice, "My goddesses, but what have we done?"
STALA CASTLE
Kyul was lost in his nightmares of his family's massacre when his right hand
suddenly began to burn... It was a sign...
WAKEUPWAKEUPWAKEUPWAKEUPWAKEUPWAKEUPWAKEUPWAKEUP...
Kyul opened his eyes to
a group of Sheikahs standing over him, trying to bind his hands and feet...
Kyul kicked the ones trying to get his feet and charged the triforce in his
hands, releasing energy down the arms of the sheikahs trying to get his arms.
They were stunned and fell back. Kyul jumped to his feet and grabbed the
sword of light, but the Sheikahs were very fast and swarmed him. Kyul fell
and they all piled up on him. Through the pile appeared the sword of
light, which immediately began to glow very brightly. "BLITZSCHLAG!" Kyul
roared the command to the thunder and the Sheikahs were sent flying in every
direction. Kyul then very painfully got to his feet and tried to make a
run for the door... Just as he got there, a sheikah caught him with a whip
and he fell flat on his face. As they were holding him, another one dressed
in green came over to him and began humming strange incantations. "Schtiel
Vaanarh Monhsonh AbVaeti Kurmonschtoonen." A green light began to fill the
room and Kyul was paralyzed... They bound his hands and feet and brought him
out of the room, taking all of his possessions with them...
They rode for a long time. Kyul's eyes were covered and he could not tell
where they were going... All he knew was that it was far...and that his back
hurt... Then after what Kyul thought was forever and a day, the horses
stopped. Kyul could only make out that it was daylight because light
was coming through his blindfold... When he finally regained the use of his
legs, they untied him... Under very acute supervision, though, five guards
armed with spears, crossbows, and daggers, were surrounding him. They then
lead him to a large room filled with richly dressed sheikahs. They were not
normal though, there was something very disturbing about that group. He was
then lead to the far end of the Hall close to the throne of some kind of
leader... The guards forced him to kneel in front of their leader. It took
the strength of four sheikah warriors to make Kyul kneel. They had to hit
the back of his knees with their spears and push him to the ground...
"Welcome Schatten Reiter, I am Ognor, Great Overseer of the Sheikahs of the
Kam-Xeneises brotherhood... May I know your name?"
Kyul didn't answer, he just looked straight at the Overseer's red
eyes. The overseer asked again...and he wasn't as friendly.. "One more and
LAST time. Who are you and how did you manage to put your dirty traitor hands
on the triforce?"
This time Kyul answered... He pulled his concealed golden dagger from the
back of his belt and threw it with all his strength towards the overseer and
without waiting for the result, he dug his elbow in one of the nearest
guard's knee, took his spears, and began to attempt to fight his way out
through the swarm of Sheikahs, or die trying ...
"ENOUGH!" The word shrieked in Kyul's mind and he felt invisible hands
grab his throat and begin to squeeze. He fell down to his knees. When he
regained his senses, he looked at the overseer and noticed that his Dagger
was hovering a few inches from his throat. The overseer laughed and grabbed
the dagger from mid-air and read the words carved on the blade.
"Schattenfeilds? Where did you steal this?" he asked, his red eyes gazing
straight into Kyul's mind. Felling the invasion, Kyul closed his eyes and
brought up his mental barriers in an attempt to keep the Sheikah from
reading his mind any further. But it was too late, he already knew...
"You... You are actually the son of Mikel and Dey Schattenfeilds, the most
honorable Sheikahs ever to walk on this world... And you lowered yourself
to...this," the overseer said, almost scandalized by what he had learned.
Insulted by the Overseer's tone, Kyul replied, "My parents were honorable
Schatten Reiters. Our cause is just and...." Kyul felt the invisible hands on
his throat again and gagged...
The overseer, devastated, said, "Bring him to his cell. I will decide what to
do with him tomorrow."
STALA CASTLE
Link could not sleep for the rest of the night. He was shivering and every
single disturbance within the castle made him grasp the Master Sword tighter
and tighter... The triforce emblem on his hand was radiating a strange
energy as if the power wanted to separate itself. Feeling completely
insecure and fragile, Link decided to ask Zelda for some council and comfort.
As Link walked slowly through the granite halls of the stalan Citadel, his
acute sense of hearing commanded him to turn around. As he did, his eye
caught a swift movement close to the roof in the girders. "What the... Only
sheikah move like that... Probably just me." Link didn't pay much more
attention to the shadows and continued his walk towards Zelda's room...
When Link finally arrived at Zelda's doorstep, he hesitated... It would be
sort of awkward to reveal his dream to her... On the other hand, she too
had visions in her dreams, so he would not seem crazy... Link just
stood there at Zelda's doorstep for long minutes just thinking of what to
say, what to do... Taking all of his legendary courage, Link knocked on the
door, which opened with the power of his fists ... It wasn't locked.
Fearing the worst, Link entered the spacious quarters, his senses spiked to
the maximum of their capacity... But to his relief, the third bearer of the
triforce was sitting on her bed, her deep blue eyes penetrating deep into
Link's own...
"I was waiting for you. You stood in front of that door for quite a while,"
Zelda said calmly.
"I was...distracted. I didn't know if I could come in here and tell you how
I feel and why I feel that way, it's just so foreign to me," Link replied, his
eyes sinking to the ground.
Zelda nodded, stood up, and walked right up to Link. "I know it already. He is
on his way back, isn't he?" she said, her voice breaking under the emotion.
"Yeah he is, Zel.. I don't know when or how, but he is loose again... Out to
get us. Me ... You ... And Kyul..." Link said, tears slipping down his cheeks.
They both took a deep look at what they were about to face and used their
thus far concealed love for each other and their world to get the will to
fight back. They slept together that night, their bodies tangled in one
another, trying to forget the ordeal they would have to face, and that some
problems had to be dealt with more urgently...
MYRKANA CASTLE (A FEW HOURS EARLIER)
The King was staring at his mages as they were humming eerie incantations
and were waving their hands over an ominous-looking frozen-over pool, which
was emanating a green and black aura... Then, as the incantation became
louder, a small fissure appeared in the ice. When the King of Myrkana noticed,
he walked right up to the pool and yelled, "AWAKE! AWAKE NOW AND TAKE WHAT IS
YOURS!"
All the wants you waste
All the things you've chased
And it all crashes down
And you break your crown
And you point your finger
But there's no one around
The fractures became more and more prominent on the pool and finally a
gloved fist broke through and a massive wave of evil energy and power
converged towards the fist that was absorbing it avidly as if it was a
dearly missed source of subsistence. Then it became more concentrated. The
fist was ripping dark, evil energy from all that was around him, including
the mages... As the ice on the pool shattered in millions of little shards, a
dark figure rose from it, levitating away from it as a convict runs away from
a dungeon. Several mages dropped dead from the effort it took to satisfy the
black being's desire for energy... As the creature descended to the ground,
it looked at its lower right limb and as if something cruelly important was
missing, it shrieked a long, terrifying cry. One could almost feel the vow
for vengeance being transmitted...
Just want one thing
Just to play the king
But the castle crumbled
And you've left with just a name
Where's your crown?
King nothing
The King of Myrkana bowed to the figure and said, "Dark King, welcome back. I,
your humble servant, have prepared everything for your vengeance."
The evil King of Darkness, former container for the Sacred Triforce of Power,
replied in his coarse powerful voice, "Excellent. They will ALL pay, the damn
pigs."
Hard and cold
Bought and sold
A heart hard as gold
Are you satisfied
Wish I may
Wish I might
You wish your life away
Are you pacified?
"Maybe your highness is tired. Eight years in the sacred realm without
power... It must be... Very straining to say the least," The King Morden
said, weary to dig in an open wound.
"Yes, rest and gather my forces... I will do it, after I complete this task,"
the gerudo thief said, enjoying every moment of his newfound freedom.
I want the star
I want it now
I want it all and I don't care how
Ganondorf walked to the closest window and yelled out, "YOU DARK SPIRITS,
COME BACK TO MY HAND AND SERVE MY WILL!"
Careful what you wish
Careful what you say
Careful what you wish
You may regret it
When the last word was spoken, six black beams radiating malevolence
suddenly appeared in the room. Pleasured by the result of his call, the
sinful King inspected his agents closely. Satisfied of what he saw and felt
he said, "Dark beings, take your form and go... Go faster, further and hunt
down what you crave. HUNT DOWN YOUR PREY!"
Where's your crown?
King nothing
