Chapter 9: Power to the Gods
After seeing Link leave the fortress with haste, Zelda walked back in the tower to continue her conversation with Impa…
“I’m sorry I had to leave so quickly… I was just so happy and I wanted to tell Link that you knew where Kyul was… Again I apologise for my impoliteness.”
Impa raised an eyebrow wondering why Zelda apologized for such an insignificant matter. “There is nothing to be sorry about Princess, it is understandable after your dispute you were anxious to apologise.”
Zelda bowed her head… her former tutor knew her too well.
“Back to our point of concern… I know approximately where Kyul is… He was taken by the Sheikah extremist and they used him to perform their dirty work.”
Shocked by the revelation, Zelda asked, “And why would they need Kyul for that... and hell, what dirty work is there to be done?”
Impa shook her head in disgust. “The extremists think that the Sheikah cast should rule over the world… They are a band of lunatics and fools, heretics to the sheikah duty… They sent messages over to all of us, asking for help to conquer Hyrule, most refused but some joined them… They know there are only two things capable of stopping them… The first are the remaining sheikahs… and the second are the triforce bearers… especially Kyul. Now they kidnapped and used him to eradicate the sheikah… It’s a perfect cover; the last remaining Schatten Reiter murders the Sheikah for redemption… However, I saw through the mesh of lies and treachery and when I heard that the outpost was attacked, I knew…”
“But how di…” A familiar nay slipped through the loud noise of the Outpost’s courtyard. Both Zelda and Impa rushed to the window… Link’s horse, Epona; was there, but something was missing… Green, the lack of green cloth worried Zelda, instead of the green though small elf clad in the same attire as Zelda; he was running towards the tower holding something blue in his hand… Zelda’s vision enhanced by the three triforce pieces discovered to her great despair that it was the only thing Link would never let go of… The ocarina of time…
Without waiting for Impa to understand, Zelda ran to the boy’s encounter… When Impa finally saw what the boy had in his hand, she began to run too, whispering in her mind “How?”
Zelda made it down the stairway of the tower in a record time, meeting the boy in the entrance. Without even waiting for an explanation, Zelda asked breathing heavily, “Where’s Link, boy? What happened?”
The boy’s magic red eyes were full of tears, and although Zelda could not see his facial expressions, she would have bet her life that he was too shocked to tell her what those ruby red eyes had witnessed out in the foothills… One thing was for sure though… She would not like what was going to come out of the boy’s mask…
Zelda tried to calm the boy whose breath was scattered. “Calm down, it’s going to be alright.”
The boy choked a reply. “L..L…Link… th… they ..g..g..got Ll..l.. Link.”
Zelda analysed his answer. “They got Link? Means they, whoever they are, have him… But he’s not dead…”
“Who has Link…? Who got him?” Zelda pleaded the last question… The boy’s only answer came silently; he gave her the Ocarina of Time…
As soon as Zelda’s hands touched the blue ceramic of the sacred instrument, a violent wave of emotions hurled her back on a pillar supporting the upper level of the fortress… Impa and the boy rushed to her help… but she was unconscious.
Link was there, standing strong, the Master Sword and his shield in hand. Facing him were two figures emanating evil… One of them she knew. It was one of the knights they destroyed. The second was even more evil than the first… His soul was old and wicked…
Through the power of the Ocarina Zelda witnessed Link’s defeat and his capture… Only when she saw the face of the second figure did she understand who they were and where they came from… It was Link but without love, Link without anything that made him Link apart from his physical resemblance; he was the opposite of what the hero of time was… They were Triforce Raiders…
Zelda gasped and jumped to her feet so quickly and so suddenly that Impa was thrown on her back, but regained her footing with a fluid movement… Before she could question the remaining triforce holder about what was going on, Zelda yelled to the crowded courtyard, “SPREAD OUT NOW… SOMETHING IS COMING HERE!”
The crowd looked at the disguised Sheikah and only began to move when he grabbed the hilt of his sword and ripped it out of its leather casing… The peoples in the courtyard stared at the Sheikah… He was holding his sword tightly and it seemed that every time someone moved, he jumped to face the source of the disturbance…
Then it happened… An outline appeared on the high walls of the fortress…. It was completely black, only its eyes were burning ruby and the sick disgusting scent of evil was present…
The Sheikah had sensed it too… As he faced his black reflection his red eyes narrowed and his knuckles became white on the hilt of his sword. He crouched preparing for combat…
As the black, evil and cruel being walked down the stairs of the wall, the crowd of dumbfounded peoples moved to make a path to the Sheikah…
As the shadow walked closer he began to speak, his distorted voice cutting through the thin, crisp air of the foothills. “We already have the strongest… It’s only a matter of time before we get you all.” As he finished his sentence he slowly extracted his black sword from its sheath… “Surrender now and don’t make it worse for yourself.”
Not even bothering to think of a reply, Zelda held her right fist up in front of her; the triforce was emanating its usual golden light.
The black reflection laughed and continued its circling… “You think you’re stronger with that?” To those words he brought his own fist up, on it was the triforce; but black and evil…
Zelda nearly collapsed as an invisible red hot knife pierced her hand… No, how could they have the power to do such a thing…?
As the shadow laughed and approached to finish her off, a series of muffled detonations resonated through the inner walls of the outpost… His confidence was shaken; he was still facing Zelda who was holding her battle stance through the pain… That wasn’t what was troubling him though… Sheikahs were surrounding him… They were everywhere, on the walls, in the windows and everywhere in the courtyard… He still decided to attack… As he raised his sword high in the air to perform the first strike, Impa placed herself in between Zelda and her shadow… Not waiting any longer, she signalled all the sheikah positioned in the outpost. Obeying her command, the Sheikahs performed a familiar movement. The huge blinding flash of deku nuts imploding shocked all the unprotected occupants of the outpost including Zelda and her shadow…
When Zelda regained consciousness, she was lying on a stretcher of some sort carried by four Sheikah of unknown sex or age. The Sheikah were walking softly making no noise at all as their agile legs compensated for the uneven and rocky ground of the high foothills. Staggered, she sprung off of the stretcher and looked around her. The Sheikah’s acute eyes noticed the sudden movement and grouped around her, crossed their arms on their chests and one of them yelled, “All bow to the third warrior of light.” As the unknown Sheikah spoke, all of the warriors surrounding her bowed their arms on their chests and one knee on the rocky ground under them.
Zelda looked at the Sheikah bowing to her. She never knew they existed in such number, it was almost an army. Impa made her way through the ranks and reached a still confused Zelda.
“W… What is this?” she asked looking at the sheikah warriors, the elite of Hyrule. “They are the last ones, determined to eradicate the last hold of the rebels that destroy their name and stand in the way of the light workers.”
Zelda was still amazed by the energy emanating from the shadow combatants, it was almost disturbing… It was so powerful, strong, and determined. “So where are we going?”
Impa raised an eyebrow. “At this moment we are going to save your friend, follow us we are almost there.” To those words Impa turned to the troops and yelled a command in the language Kyul spoke and they all resumed their silent walk towards their nemesis… And her’s.
Just as everyone formed ranks and began their walk, Zelda noticed someone riding on a horse resembling Epona. Perhaps it was simply a coincidence, or even just a similar horse. Still odd…
And so they walked. Further and further, over hills, around ravines and valleys. The Sheikah were walking almost effortlessly on the ground. It almost seemed like their feet didn’t even touch the ground under them, for no one could hear them, or see them for that matter. Not even the watchers… No one knew they were on their doorstep.
ROGUE SHEIKAH HIDEOUT
Kyul was laying in his mental prison, building up energy for his escape; no one would stop it this time. And once he comes out…Watch out.
While his eyes were closed, black tentacles began to soil the white walls of his cell, making their way towards Kyul’s body. Feeling the intrusion, Kyul opened his eyes and stood up. A smile formed on his lips and he said out loud, “You’re looking for something, Mr. Overseer, something you thought belonged to my body.” The black tentacles continued towards him. “Could it be …THIS?!” Kyul rose his right hand, on it was the triforce symbol, emanating its usual golden light. The tentacles froze on the spot and shattered at the contact of the powerful light. Kyul laughed at the futile attempt to tear his soul self apart and yelled, “YOU NEVER THOUGHT IT WAS MY SOUL THAT KEPT IT, now you doomed yourself.”
A powerful voice rumbled through the walls of light. “Hehehe, even if it’s your soul that has control of it, your body is still mine… You will never get out; I will destroy you first…”
The guard felt his body collapse from under him as the small needle severed his spinal cord and lodged itself in his wind tunnel. His fellow guard ran up to him and kneeled down to see what evil fell upon his friend. Just as he noticed the small puncture on his friend’s neck, an arrow came flying from nowhere and jammed itself in his head… The invasion began.
All of Impa’s troops rushed the still open entrance to the traitor’s lair, led by none else than Zelda. The guards in the main hall barely had the time to sound the alarm before they were slaughtered by the blue blade. Then all hell broke loose, guards came rushing from everywhere, even jumping from the windows overlooking the hall.
Impa’s forces were advancing towards the main chamber of the complex at a rather alarming rate, all of them fighting ferociously with their small curved swords. None of the defending force’s troops were able to contain the one with the larger sword though, he was invincible. Or at least he avoided or blocked blows as if he was living in a slower frame of time. And none of them could avoid the quick and powerful azure blade, as agile and strong as they were he still came out on top, almost dancing at a fanatical beat, leaving a trail of dead, crippled or shattered bodies in its wake.
Zelda was sweating with all of the clothes shielding her true appearance, but it didn’t slow her down, neither did the Sheikah traitors; none could stand in the way of the triforce. As she turned around to get rid of a soldier that sneaked behind her, Zelda felt a wave of energy… Another triforce was here, close. She rotated quickly; dialling-in to the distinctive aura of the Triforce, there coming towards her was an arrow, not any arrow, an arrow magically lit by fire. Her Triforce-driven lightning quick reflexes took over as she positioned her sword to deflect it.
The burning arrow rang off the blue blade and ended up in the large sheets hanging from the wall… They caught fire, casting immediate panic upon everyone else in the room… Zelda saw Kyul’s soulless body walk into another room, taking advantage of the panic the fire was causing. She made her way to that same door.
As she stepped in the room ready to be ambushed by more soldiers, none appeared. The huge room was completely empty. At the far end was a large chair occupied by a Sheikah dressed in a golden robe. Beside him was Kyul, his arms crossed over his chest, his head bowed down and the triforce on the back of his right fist was glowing rather dimly considering the proximity of another piece.
“Ahh, welcome to my humble home, please make yourself at home.” The words spoken by the Sheikah surprised Zelda; she didn’t expect the leader of the traitors to talk to her that softly. “No, you are going down. All your guards are being eradicated by Impa’s army… You are doomed, NOW RELEASE KYUL!” Zelda rose her sword after her speech; she knew the reaction would be negative. The Sheikah laughed, mocking Zelda. “Don’t you realise that my friend here will be able to exterminate them all after he kills you and collects your triforce?” he finished, pointing towards Kyul.
“Let him come,” Zelda replied, her eyes burning in defiance. The overseer chuckled and with a small movement of the wrist he sent his pawn to do the dirty work.
Zelda readied herself for the fight, she knew he was stronger than her; it would be a power struggle. Kyul slowly advanced towards her, taking every step slowly. His eyes were empty of all life or remorse, just an empty shell carrying out orders… A disposable hero…
Zelda circled around Link to make sure that she wouldn’t get cornered, when she cleared her back she attacked, trying to destabilise Kyul as much as possible so that maybe his spirit would be strong enough to retake control over his body… Unlikely, but still there was a chance.
Zelda set up a series of quick stab attacks, fast, precise, and deadly. Kyul effortlessly redirected the strikes with swift and accurate jerks of his wrist. Zelda didn’t give up though, she came back charging using her speed and agility to get on his weak side. Again, ineffective; Kyul bent a knee, slid on his knee, and rotated in the opposite direction his golden blade making solid contact with the blue one.
Zelda nearly lost her grip on her sword for she never expected a very intense contact. She grunted and nearly lost her footing as she absorbed the shock. Kyul didn’t waist much time before resuming his attack. He walked over to Zelda who was still a bit shaken by the counterforce he had sent in his previous counter attack. Kyul jumped in the air and attempted to hack Zelda’s head off. She was barely able to parry it and she had to step back, unable to hold her ground against Kyul’s raw force.
After a few offensive exchanges from both warriors, Kyul took the decisive advantage. He accurately pushed Zelda’s sword out of the way, spun around, kicked her, causing her to lose footing and fall back, and to complete the move he took her sword out of her hand with a powerful slash as she was falling…
“YES MY PAWN, FINISH HIM!” the overseer yelled in joy from his pedestal as he approached the warriors to witness the transfer of the triforce pieces…
“Kyul... It's me, Zelda, can’t you remember me? And Link? Think… Go deep into yourself.”
“Oh do I ever remember; funny, I never thought I forgot…” Kyul’s spirit rose to its feet and yelled to his own echo, “IT’S TIME I GET MY BODY BACK!” Then, Kal-Shzenay’s misty form appeared behind him and whispered in his ear, “Time for you to perform what I taught you.” Kyul nodded and closed his eyes, his arms were spread like the wings of a great bird and the palm of his hands were glowing a bright yellow aura. His prison began to fissure…
Kyul’s shell approached the defeated Sheikah to finish him off, but as he rose his sword above his head to deal the fatal blow uncertainty crept on him… His arms grew a bit weaker and he began to shake unable to perform the deed…
“NO, KILL HIM, PAWN… NOW!” the overseer yelled from afar, feeling his spell weakening…
Zelda sat there, her eyes closed waiting for either death or salvation. Kyul was still over her, still frozen in his decision, but as the Overseer conjured more spells, his body began to escape his soul’s grasp again. The Sword of Light was trembling, uncertain and feeling the effects of the ruthless fight taking place in Kyul’s mind.
As Kyul felt that the fight was almost lost, something happened. Neither him, Zelda, or the overseer saw it happen. Only pure reflex kicked in… The only thing he saw as his mind was ordering him to move was… Schattenfields. Then, everything collapsed, Kyul fell on his knees, his mental prison demolished. Slowly his hands began to tickle and he could feel them again. Zelda was holding someone back and the Overseer of the renegade sheikah was lying on the ground, a pool of blood forming beneath him… In his chest was embedded a familiar dagger…
Kyul slowly got up, his vision establishing itself and the fog in his mind dispersing fast. As he turned around he was faced with Zelda and a little boy. Zelda’s eyes were watery, relieved that Kyul was finally saved from the extremists. The boy had hatred in his eyes, it was then that Kyul understood that the dagger that killed the Overseer was destined for him…
“Kyul, you're back…” Zelda asked making sure she could see life in his eyes.
“Yes, I... I am,” he replied unsure, what happened was still too present in his mind for him to be certain of anything. He looked at the boy with regret and compassion, but the boy still hated him for the things he did when he was controlled by the overseer and his minions.
Kyul didn’t seek further forgiveness and turned towards the dead sheikah to collect his family dagger from his lifeless body. “Let’s get the hell out of here,” he said as he got up, his bloody dagger in hand.
Peace through darkness
Love through hate
Now the doors are closing in your face
I want to replace the empty space
But not erase
Calling me calling me
From me under
The main hall’s roof was ablaze and the fire had spread to almost everywhere. In other words, the main entrance was unreachable without risking getting burned to a crisp…
“Were trapped!” Zelda yelled over the roar of the fire. Kyul observed the situation with his grey eyes. “You two hold on to my belt and shield your faces.” Kyul tugged on his gauntlets to make sure they were on well on his hands and he pulled out his modified hookshot. “HOLD TIGHT GUYS!” Kyul placed his left arm over his face and he fired.
The hookshot zoomed through the fire and grappled on to the granite wall on the other side. Kyul, Zelda and the boy were immediately pulled on the other side, flying through the burning flames and the volatile aches. Once on the other side, Zelda and the boy both sped out of the room and Kyul followed right behind them.
As they all got out of the cave they came upon two lines of Sheikah warriors, their heads bowed and their arms crossed over their chests, even the prisoners were on one knee and bowing to the warriors of Light.
“What is all this?” Kyul never even thought that the Sheikah existed in such vast numbers. “These are the remainders of the Sheikah cast, the shadow warriors,” Zelda replied as she walked over to Impa, she too was bowed. “I thank you all for your help, but where we are going now no one can help.” Zelda spoke the last words with a load of emotions, her hand was resting on Impa’s shoulder. “I understand, warrior of Light, we too must go... To think about what happened here and make sure it never happens again.” Impa had risen to her feet and lifted her open palm towards the bright sun. All the Sheikah followed her signal and lifted their heads and bodies, even the prisoners.
When all the Sheikah left, Kyul was left wondering as Zelda was getting ready to mount her horse that the Sheikah had brought for her to return to the Outpost. “Eh…. HEY.”
“What do you want?” Zelda replied to Kyul’s annoying call.
“Well I just want to know a few things, first, where the hell is Link, and second, where the fuck is that place where you say no one can help us?” Kyul was burning out, his mind was still sore from the violent rape it was forced to endure and his body aching for every little spot from all the forced fighting and torture he endured.
“I can’t explain it, all right? Now we have to get going as quick as possible,” Zelda said, still absorbed by her work on her saddle.
“Fine, but when once we're gone, I want a full update on our little situation even though I can’t see any good coming out of it.”
They both mounted the white horse as the sun was setting on the rocky hills, Death Mountain was far behind, but still in a distance where they could feel the uncertainty emanating from the sages in the chamber of light, and it was all but reassuring.
As they were riding smoothly back to the Outpost, Zelda explained everything about the dark alter ego, Link’s abduction and the Sheikah boy that witnessed it and brought the Ocarina of Time back from the scene.
Kyul was speechless; things were simply building up, rage accumulating, anger boiling in his veins. He didn’t say or do anything, he simply kept his anger stored inside him, and someone would suffer the effects of that anger…
“We're almost there.”
Kyul looked at the stone walls standing in front of him and remembered what happened before, he lifted the hood of his cloak. Who wants to be stoned to death?
Zelda rode slowly into the outpost to avoid attracting attention. She then negotiated their overnight stay in the stables. It's better to keep a low profile and they could leave early the next morning.
The night fell upon the outpost. Slowly the women and children returned to their homes to rest and prepare for the next dawn. Every night and day passing distanced the mortifying events that took place in the very center of their lives. So for another night the moon rose high in the sky, the bright stars invaded the heavens and the auroras began to flicker and wrap their soothing aura around the spots in the sky.
Kyul was still on edge, he dared not sleep for he feared not waking up. He sat down on a nearby hay stack and scanned the section of the stables they were placed in. His weapons and bags were resting on a wooden beam that supported the roof; Shattenjager was bruiting with snow in a corner and to the opposite side Zelda in her Sheikah outfit was sleeping, probably thinking of Link and her homeland. Kyul’s eyes were getting heavy, his senses were somewhat leaving him, it had been a while since he had some real sleep. He decided it wouldn’t be too bad if he shut his eyes for a few minutes, he would know if someone came in…
Steps, as light as they could ever be. Sheikah were trained at a very young age to travel silently. Some even say that they never touched ground when they walked, they said that their feet hovered a few millimetres off the ground making their steps unperceivable. Maybe only the elite few could see or hear them move.
The small form walked in the stables without making a sound, he had jumped from the skylight on the roof to avoid opening the door, after he climbed down the beams and pillars and walked over to the entrance to the parallel room. As he entered a sudden yet powerful movement caused him to fall on his butt, the golden blade had stopped a hair off his neck.
“What do you want kid?”
“You seem eager to kill me, twice you came close.”
“I wasn’t myself, so it only counts as once. Plus you should know that SchattenReïters hate intruders.”
“Oh I have that much figured… No I thought I could maybe go with you; I don’t have my place with them… I’m different and they already approved.”
Kyul rested his blade on his right shoulder and replied to the boy still sitting on the hay covered floor. “Where we are going, there is no room for mistakes or blinks… You cannot come…” The boy’s head dipped down. “But, if… And I say only if one of us comes back from there you can follow them…”
The boy still seemed unsatisfied. “I wanted to help Link, but I can settle with that because I know you will all come back.”
Kyul smiled and messed up the boy’s hair. “Yeah… I hope, c'mon we're going to bed.”
As they turned around, a loud crash rumbled the old wooden structure of the stable, small splinters of wood were sent flying injuring many animals in the process. Kyul was able to avoid injury by stopping all the spikes of wood with energy from his sword. He then quickly ran to the source of the commotion. He entered the main room and rotated 360 degrees to pinpoint the threat; he found it standing in the arch of a large hole. It was black, shadowy and evil. He had seen it before.
Kyul’s shadow walked in the stable with confidence, failure was not an option. As soon as he saw what he was up against, Kyul focused and locked on his target, he would settle this quickly. It was difficult because of all the beasts moaning and crying, to complete his concentration procedure he repeated his family’s dictum, “Ich komm wieder in zehn Tagen als dein Schatten und werd dich jagen Heimlich werd ich auferstehen und du wirst um Gnade flehen, Asche.”
Then a voice came from everywhere in the room, “Big words for a small man.” It was the shadow, he was approaching and apparently he could read Kyul’s mind… “Oh god, I have had ENOUGH with people in my mind… Kick him out, Kal.” “Sure thing, kid.”
The shadow flinched a bit but then laughed. “I can do anything to you.”
“We will see about that… Get Zelda, kid, it might get messy.”
The boy ran back to the room where Zelda was waking up after the blast…
Kyul smiled and felt the weight of his sword by swinging it in the air and lining it up over his head. It powered itself with golden light, his triforce was burning with all his might, it had been a while since his last good fight…
The shadow jumped and swung his sword at Kyul’s head, he easily deflected the blow and his overpowered sword sent him flying in a manure filled stall. “That’s not how you do it… amateur.”
The shadow replied in pure anger, “YOU WILL SEE WHO THE AMATEUR IS!” Kyul laughed. “Be my guest… bring it on.”
The shadow attacked again, evil energy pouring out of his weapon. He made three quick strikes that Kyul deflected easily, almost laughing at the shadow… He finished by sending him flying through the wooden wall with a powerful strike to the core. The shadow came out limping, black blood streaking from his lower trunk. Kyul prepared for another attack but the Shadow didn’t flinch, instead he raised his left hand where a black triforce was doing the opposite of the light one, it was sucking all light, even the one emitted by Kyul’s triforce… “Behold the duskenforce, the shadow of the Triforce, its opposite. I thought I could win this fight honorably but obviously I cannot and I need no honor, only victory.” The triangles on the back of his hand emanated even more malevolent radiation.
Kyul kept his defensive position, alert to whatever trick that thing would try to pull off to bring him down. Yet after a few seconds he began to feel somewhat uncomfortable. His sword was glowing a bit dimmer.
“So you see it now, don’t you? You cannot fight our power.”
Kyul didn’t answer, his knees were getting weaker, the Sword of Light wasn’t glowing anymore and he was fighting to stay steady on his feet. The Shadow laughed again and approached him, with every of his steps the gravity was increasing exponentially and was nearly unbearable. It didn’t take long before Kyul could no longer stand and fell down resting on the hilt of his sword. The Shadow then kneeled down, smiled at the pain he was inflicting, and slowly moved his hand towards Kyul’s head. The pain was beyond most tortures ever inflicted upon him, he felt like his eyes were ripping out of their sockets, he felt his heart palpitating at the sudden manipulation of his metabolism; his lungs squeezed until no oxygen was left in them, his muscles were randomly hit by intense spasms. He knew that his only hope was to use the power of the gods to fight it, his sword and the triforce… He could do this.
Kyul’s vision blurred, all he saw were forms made of light and the ambient energy flowing like a maelstrom around the room. He was trying to the maximum of his capacities to call upon the power of the Triforce but he was unable to make the contact, too much pain interfering with his concentration… Just as he was about attempt one last strike all of the pain and gravity holding him down vanished. Kyul didn’t waste the opportunity, he brandished the Sword of Light and without delay released a powerful blow. The shadow collapsed in a pile of black ashes. “Asche zu asche, und staub zu staub.” Zelda was standing there with her bow still in hand…
Kyul smiled and looked around and held on to a pillar, he felt weak and wanted to puke. Zelda and the Sheikah boy rushed to help him. But just as they grabbed him, a blinding flash of light stunned them all for a few seconds. When they regained their senses they saw the outline of a very large man standing before them. Before they had time to say or ask anything the man spoke. “I am Kal-Shzenay, the founder of the Schatten Reïters. And I have something to tell all of you. When Kyul’s shadow attacked him, I was able to infiltrate his mind and track his foundation to some unknown region of this world, I believe that is the place where the source of all evil stands, and where your friend is kept.”
Zelda and the boy were still contemplating the semi god with astonishment. Kyul was the only one who dared to ask anything. “Can you show us this place, my God?” The answer was something both he and Zelda were waiting for right up since Kyul was saved from the renegade Sheikahs. “Yes, I can even do better than that. I was able to fuel my powers with energy channeling through Kyul; I will bring you and the other Triforce bearer right to their doorstep. Yet there is still something you must know.”
INHABITABLE BADLANDS
End of counting...the days I'm living
Chasing my shadow...going backwards
I take a step back...onto the train tracks
Seeing the wheels roll...hearing the whistle yell
The hurting has taken its toll...and I'm here to end it all
Link woke up screaming. “RUN KID RUN!” His adrenalin was pumping and he tried to break free from his shadow’s grasp, only it wasn’t Dark Link holding him. Chains were binding him to a metal cross lifted a few feet off the ground. His head immediately throbbed and he spat some blood. He prayed that the boy was able to escape with the ocarina.
“Awake, are we?” The voice came from behind. Link knew exactly who it was, he didn’t care why or how but Ganondorf found a way to crack his way out of the Hylian seal.
“Ahh Link, my good old enemy, let me introduce you to my plan to eradicate you from the surface of this world. You see, you and I are the balance of the bad and good. I cannot exist without you and you without me. It would create a gap in the fabrics of time and the ways of the world. I cannot kill you and you cannot kill me, we are equals, we are doomed to fight endlessly through time… Unless someone else comes in and kills me or you, which obviously is impossible, we are simply that good. But there is another solution! I will drink your own blood and destroy you with the master sword, then the cycle will end and no one will be able to stop me.”
Link listened to the horrifying speech; he closed his eyes and accepted what was happening. If only Kyul and Zelda could find him. Ganondorf laughed at Link’s fear and slashed the hero’s wrist open, blood poured out into a container… Link kept his pain inside, he would not break down…
“You took from me what is meant to be mine, and all of you will pay.”
Someone save me I'm drowning
Is that an echo or is it my brain playing sad tricks on me
Or is it really you that I see
Why reach that way I'm right here
Screaming and splashing mixing my tears with the waves
Why choose that personality its not fake enough
I'm in the middle of a 90 ft lie
You won't reach me with forty-five
The heavy armoured carapace of the guard hit the ground softly. Kyul sheathed his dagger, now filthy with blood, with a few silent curses, that one almost saw him coming. He signalled Zelda that the way was now safe and waited for her at the corner of the wall, his bow in hand and getting ready to string an arrow. Zelda joined him and she too loaded an arrow. Kyul whispered to her, “I think he’s at the end of this corridor, they never thought someone would actually get inside here so there aren’t many guards. Let's just take’em out with arrows.” She nodded and loaded her weapon.
They fired, their projectiles hitting their marks. They now had an almost free ride to the room where Link was held. Feeling their partner weak and scared they both rushed down the corridor to another corner. Kyul peaked and saw that two guards were standing like statues around the door. Zelda drew her sword but Kyul nodded negatively. “Let’s try something a little more explosive, shall we?” he said while uncovering a large, black, polished object.
He simply walked in front of the guard and dropped the ignited bomb while saying, “Heya.” The guards reacted immediately and rushed towards Kyul, but it was too late. The bomb detonated and super hot expanding gas shattered the bodies of the guards, ripped apart the hinges of the door, crushed the stone around it and sent the heavy metal plated door flying inside the room. Kyul drew the Sword of Light and walked in the middle of the cloud of smoke and said, “Good afternoon.”
“Bring me the wretched sword… NOW.” Ganondorf was getting more and more anxious. He drank Link’s blood and was anxious, would his plan work? Would he be able to destroy his nemesis forever?
A guard came in carrying the Sword of Evil’s bane. Ganondorf became excited and shivers ran down his back, besides him, Link closed his eyes. But just as the guard kneeled to present his master with the object he hated the most, a muffled yet powerful crash resonated throughout the whole area. The door flew off its hinges and clipped the bowed servant crushing him against the opposite walls, blood dripped on the floor a sure sign that nothing was left of the minion.
Ganondorf was astounded, who could have sneaked in here without being torn to pieces by the guards? He didn’t care though, he had what he wanted. He laughed as he picked up the master sword from the ground and watched the intruders enter as the smoke dissipated.
Kyul walked in first, his sword already vibrating with excitement, Zelda followed behind him still a bit hesitant. “Welcome in my realm poor bastards, I see you have come to witness my first victory against the forces of light.”
Kyul answered with a touch of irony. “Victory? I thought it said defeat on the show tickets.” He then took a step towards him.
Ganon unsheathed the Master Sword and pointed it a Link’s neck. “Don’t come any closer or I rid Hyrule of its Hero.”
Seeing that Kyul stopped approaching Link yelled, “Don’t worry for me Kyul, KILL HIM!”
Kyul smiled and said, “The only one allowed to turn you into a martyr here is me, Link… Now pig head, get ready to cease to exist.”
“Oh what are you going to do, you know I have him at my mercy. He is the only one capable of destroying me… And his weapon is in my hands.”
“Zelda, get the door, and as for you...” Kyul opened a pouch on his belt and revealed a mask only Link knew about… “Don’t force me to use it.”
“Ohh what’s this? A wittle mask to scare the King of evil away…”
“You asked for it, pork… Kal are you with me?” A powerful and omnipotent voice filled the room. “Of course, I always am with you.”
Kyul didn’t delay the procedure any longer; he raised his sword and placed the mask on his face… Instantly the room was filled with blue light, rays were coming from everywhere in the room and converging towards Kyul… Only Link and the remains of Majora know what was happening here… Kyul’s body grew, his tunic changed, light emerged from his pupils… Finally he held a closed fist over his head. There was a flash and the next thing everyone noticed was that the Master sword was not in Ganondorf’s hands anymore. They all looked at what used to be Kyul, tightly clutched in his hand was a twin helix sword, one blade was golden and the other silver, engraved in them was “Sword of Evil’s Bane” and “Sword of Light’s Reign.”
Everyone was still speechless. Kyul, or what he became, spoke with a voice that wasn’t his, it was as if he and another were sharing the same body… “I am back Ganon, to avenge what you did to my people.”
Ganon backed up and grabbed a small dagger hidden in his armour. “No… It cannot be… You were destroyed…”
“Oh it’s me alright… You made an awful mistake to anger a God.” Kyul’s godly form advanced towards Ganon and Link who was still speechless…
“Stay back Reïter or he dies,” Ganondorf said as he pointed his dagger at Link’s neck.
“You disgust me, king pig,” the god said… He then swung his sword, energy built up on both blades only to converge at the apex, creating a disk of energy that quickly took off towards its target…
Ganon didn’t have time to move, he was clipped by the disk so hard that he flew against the wall crushing it and ending up in the parallel room… The god walked over to the crippled king of evil, placed his powerful blade on his chest, and said, “Odd turn of events isn’t it? I might miss you.” Ganon did not even have time to groan… The god lifted his sword high in the air and proceeded to rid the world of its worst enemy… Zelda and Link, who she had delivered from his bounds, braced, expecting some high magnitude energy shift but were surprised to see that The King of all Evil only turned in a pile of ash…
The god then dropped on one knee, his sword and body glowing. Then, Kyul returned slowly to normal. The Master Sword returned to its rightful owner and the Fierce Deity mask fell on the ground. Link and Zelda rushed to help him get up.
“Kyul are you ok?” They asked in unison.
“Yea… I guess I’m fine,” he replied. Then out of thin air a voice spoke to them…
“Well done heroes. You destroyed the King of evil once and for all. I must now go, I am called to the heavens by my pairs… I must now complete my duty… A long time ago, seventeen years to be exact, war was raging in these lands and it was a crime to be at the wrong place at the wrong time… So one day a gang of mercenaries attacked the Schatten Reïters, it was a surprise and vicious attack. They were forced to separate themselves to flee the threat. A mother and her husband were force to take different directions, each taking one of their twin sons with them. The father made it out alright but the mother… She was ambushed and mortally injured, she only had time to entrust her child to some powerful entity in a secret forest. She then sadly died and her remains were cremated and spread in the forest winds so she could reach her husband… Both twins grew unaware that they had a brother somewhere in the world… I will now reveal it. Kyul and Link you both are my descendants. Heir of the Founders and protectors of the Shadows… My duty here is done, all must now be figured out by yourselves.” To those words Link, Zelda, and Kyul vanished and reappeared in the middle of a Field, a few miles away from the Outpost.
“W… who was that?” Zelda asked.
Kyul got up and looked at the sky, another star appeared in the sky. “It was Kal-Shzenay. The founder of the Schatten Reïters.” He then turned to face Link. “Our ancestor…”
Link was confused; although it explained many things it was difficult to accept that Kyul was his brother. “So I guess we're family Kyul…”
“Yea, I figure that too…”
“We can talk about it in the morning… Let’s go to the Castle.”
“Yea it’s probably a good idea”
…
Later that evening when they were all sleeping, Kyul packed his bags and equipment. He then readied SchattenJager but didn’t mount him right away. He walked over to a wooden pillar and secured a small piece of paper on it with his golden dagger… He then left in good Schatten Reïter fashion without any sounds and galloped towards the horizon…
When he was gone Link appeared out of the shadows, if Kyul was gone there was a good reason for it. He took the paper from the pillar and read it...
Link,
I’m sorry but I have to leave. I do not think I’m ready to take all of the responsibilities that were bestowed upon me. I am not leaving out of fear, I simply need time to figure some things out… When the time is right I will come back. Please don’t try to find me, as a brother you can maybe do me that favor… Goodbye Link and may the Light be with you.
PS: the dagger is yours to keep; I’ve had it long enough.
Kyul Schattenfields
The end.

This isn't the ending I wanted but at least I'm finally done... Be aware that I plan on writing an alternate ending and that the sequel is on its way.
